Retaining Language through Games

People have knows for quite some time that one of the quickest ways for children (and adults!) to learn is through interactive immersion in games, media and communit.

Internet Games
The internet continues to help language learners by being the location for many internet language games. Whether the internet savvy individual likes plucking away at Scrabble online, filling out crossword puzzles or playing "Hang Man", there is no doubt that there is a virtual game for his or her playing. Equally, the internet is the ultimate in convenience as playing games- read: learning a new language- is as simple as going to a computer and logging on. Many websites are free but some do require a subscription. As a general rule, those websites that require a subscription are more community-based and let users play with each other.

The Media
One of the best ways to learn a second language is to engage with their different forms of media. For those out there who don't like the term "media", this means that the individual should read newspapers, watch television and listen to the radio. Media forms will force the language learner to get used to a native speaker's accent, speed of speech and slang words. These things tend to be the hardest things to pick up when studying a language; thus the media is the perfect tool for the avid student.

Community
Finally, one of the most traditional ways to accelerate and supplement one's language learning skills is to get immersed in a community that speaks the language being studied. If you are studying English in the UK, English language schools are a great option to speed your learning. All it takes in a trip to the computer and a quick googling of a location, English and words like "study" or "language" (i.e. phrases like " study English London" or " learn English London") to get some advice on schools.

Whether you like to simply play games online or are looking to become fluent in a language, the internet is a wonderful place to get your start learning. Not only does it have resources to learn a language but it is a good directory for other types of language learning tools. Therefore, from one language learner to another. Good luck and happy learning!
